Rask
Rask Opticon is a tattoo artist based in Los Angeles, working out of American Ink in Sherman Oaks. You may already know some of his work — the tattooed pin-up girls collection that took the world by storm, or his street art and murals scattered across LA. He even painted the mural that wraps the American Ink storefront on Ventura Boulevard. These days he's best known for his realistic embroidery and patch-style tattoos, pieces that read like stitched fabric patches sewn right into the skin. Rask has been steadily building his presence around the world. He's been featured in Lowrider Arte Magazine and Skin Deep Magazine, and he's the winner of Game Show Network's Skin Wars: Fresh Paint — exposing the masses to his distortion of life. You can see more of his work at distortionoflife.com . His biggest influences are video games, cartoons, anime, and graffiti, and it shows in the range of what he tattoos — from a Stitch patch trailing Mickey balloons and embroidered sports crests to color-realism portraits like Darth Vader on Mustafar. Whatever the subject, the goal is the same: bold, playful, technically detailed work that turns a reference into a piece that looks alive on skin. To start a project with Rask, visit American Ink at 14159 Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks or call (818) 907-6114 to set up a consultation — walk-ins are welcome when his schedule allows. You can also follow his latest work on Instagram at @rask_opticon. 01 Embroidery & Patch-Style Tattoos Rask's signature style — color tattoos rendered to look like stitched fabric patches, thread and all, from cartoon characters and sports crests to floral bouquets and personalized memorial pieces. 02 Color Realism & Pop-Culture Pieces Bold color realism drawn from video games, cartoons, anime, and film — character portraits and movie scenes built with saturated color and clean detail, like his Darth Vader and Venom pieces. 03 Custom Designs & Cover-Ups Original artwork built around your idea and placement, drawn before the needle starts — including creative cover-ups that turn older tattoos into something new.
